The Canadian Tamils’ Chamber of Commerce (CTCC) successfully hosted its annual International Women’s Day Celebration yesterday at the Brighton Convention Centre in Scarborough, bringing together Tamil entrepreneurs, community leaders, and political representatives to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women.
The evening was emceed by Lemooriya Ananthan and Dr. Sahanna Balendran, who guided the audience through an engaging program highlighting the leadership, resilience, and accomplishments of women in business, community service, and public life.
The event began with a Welcome Speech, followed by the traditional Lighting of the Oil Lamp, symbolizing unity and prosperity. The National Anthem was beautifully performed by Joannsha Suren, after which attendees observed a Moment of Silence.
The program continued with a vibrant Welcome Dance by Sahana Suthesan, setting a celebratory tone for the evening. CTCC President Ari A. Ariaran delivered the President’s Address, emphasizing the importance of supporting women entrepreneurs and leaders within the Tamil community. This was followed by remarks from Chairperson Dilani Gunarajah, who highlighted the Chamber’s ongoing commitment to empowering women in business and leadership.
Distinguished guests also addressed the audience, including Hon. Minister Tim Hodgson, Juanita Nathan, MP for Pickering–Brooklin, and Mayor Olivia Chow, who each spoke about the critical role women play in strengthening communities and driving economic growth.
The evening’s Keynote Address was delivered by Tasha Manoranjan Paramalingam, who inspired attendees with her reflections on leadership, resilience, and the importance of creating opportunities for future generations of women.
Entertainment was an integral part of the celebration, including a dynamic Fusion Dance Performance by Judia Ratnam.
A highlight of the program was an engaging Panel Discussion featuring Dr. Nirojini Sivachandran, Lawyer Packialuxmi Vasan, and Dr. Nirusha Thavarajah, moderated by Anchana Balachandran. The panel explored themes of leadership, entrepreneurship, and overcoming barriers faced by women in professional and community spaces.
The evening concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Vinosha Thevarajah, followed by dinner. During dinner, guests enjoyed a musical performance by Rishika Vijaybaskar.
The celebration continued with the Dance Floor opening with music by DJ Kow, along with exciting door prizes for attendees.
